The mind is the intersection of physicality with universe…the seat of our perception, imagination, sensation, thought, experience, creativity, and awareness. To map it is to imagine it as a celestial world with these landmarks and gyrating with dynamic life energy, an immersion into a hidden ocean teaming with life, or a birds-eye view of electro-chemical brain activity. My process for creating this piece was largely meditative. I initially chose a pallet of dominant hues of blue ranging from deep cobalt to bright turquoise to evoke a sense of water and atmosphere, accent colors in shades of orange, rust, and coral interspersed with the blues to provide a warm contrast and give the effect of landmasses or formations within a sea-like expanse, and metallic gold tones to add depth. I layered the colors with textured ridges to add to a sense of motion, hoping to achieve a calming yet invigorating composition.
